Exploratory Grants: Inspiring School Equity
Creating Equity Through Connection$66,669

Community Mediation will lead in a multifaceted approach to addressing the existing disproportionate minority contact and implicit bias at Hamden Middle School. To do this, they will: 1) conduct awareness sessions with all school staff, students and potentially family members of students; (2) provide facilitation training for students so they can conduct their own dialogues among their peers and potentially facilitate sessions with adults; (3) train and mentor a pilot group of teachers in restorative justice practices; (4) incorporate mindfulness/meditation sessions into the classroom; and (5) enlist the services of other providers in the region to launch programs/projects that strengthen learning.
